Promoter of Chula Vista Marina, Ron McElliott, Dies


Services were held in Scripps Ranch on Oct. 21 for Ron McElliott, one of the original promoters of the Chula Vista Marina. He was 56.

Mr. McElliott, an avid runner, died of a heart attack after completing a 10K race Oct. 17 in Chula Vista. He was instrumental in bringing the annual Arturo Barrios Invitational Run to the city 10 years ago, said Tom Blake, a neighbor and longtime friend.

Mr. McElliott was a partner in Income Property Group, which built and manages the Chula Vista Marina. He was chairman of the Holiday Bowl Committee in 1996 and 1997. Mr. McElliott was also the first chairman of the San Diego Port Tenants Association and had been a chairman of Camp Enterprise for the Downtown Rotary Club. The former chairman of the Lincoln Club of San Diego County, he was also a former board member of the county’s Building Industry Association.

Mr. McElliott is survived by his widow, Karen; daughters Kimberly Foster of Seattle and Jennifer Blake of San Diego; and three grandchildren.
