Cox Communications said Aug. 21 that it will adopt Qualcomm’s BREW technology to help power and expand its wireless data services.
With BREW-enabled handsets, Cox will be able to provide subscribers the ability to download a wide variety of applications, such as games, location tools, messaging and ringtones. Qualcomm will host the BREW service for Cox.
“Overall customer experience is a key factor in choosing operating systems to support our wireless service,” said Dane Dickie, executive director of product operations at Cox. “BREW will enable our customers to enjoy a personalized experience with our wireless service.”
As a device and service provider, Cox will be better equipped to create rich, personalized content for its mobile users, company officials said.
