Leap Wireless International Inc. announced that it acquired 13 spectrum licenses in North and South Carolina for $31.8 million, allowing the company to expand its wireless services.
According to a Dec. 13 Leap press release, the acquisition from Urban Comm-North Carolina Inc. represented 4.9 million potential customers, growing its potential customers in North and South Carolina to 9 million.
Leap purchased 10 megahertz in the following markets:
• North Carolina: Asheville-Hendersonville; Burlington; Goldsboro-Kinston; Greenville-Washington; New Bern; Raleigh-Durham; Roanoke Rapids; and Rocky Mount-Wilson.
• South Carolina: Florence; Myrtle Beach; Orangeburg; Sumter; and Charleston.
Communications carrier Leap Wireless is traded on the Nasdaq as LEAP and closed Dec. 13 at $60.15, its highest close in more than a year.
