Executive Profile — Marcy T. Rogers

Staff

Marcy Rogers calls SpineMark Corp. the “one-stop spine shop.”

Rogers, president and chief executive officer of the specialty hospital focused exclusively on spine and surgical care, wasn’t planning on entering the medical field.

But when the English major graduated from college, she met a well-known craniofacial physician who wanted to open a clinic in Charlottesville, Va.

She was asked to become coordinator at the clinic, and fell in love with helping children with severe deformities.

A marriage, divorce and two nonprofits later, Rogers was ready to try on a new hat.

Unlike craniofacial surgery with one in every 250,000 people suffering pain, there were 700 million people with back pain, Rogers said.

This fact suggested the tremendous need for her to develop a specialty hospital like SpineMark, including the multidisciplinary approach of research and education for doctors.

“If we can get to these patients early in the injury process, we stand a very significant chance of restoring them to function in life,” said Rogers.

SpineMark is conducting collaborative research in the Netherlands, United Kingdom and Singapore.

“We want to give educated answers quickly. You could spend years looking for answers, becoming more debilitated every day,” said Rogers.
