Students at UC San Diego will compete for their share of $50,000 in prize money during a business plan competition that culminates in May.
It’s the first such event from the Triton Innovation Network, a student organization at UCSD, which hopes to make the competition an annual occurrence.
The UCSD $50,000 Entrepreneurship Competition brings students together in multidisciplinary teams. Volunteer mentors from San Diego’s scientific, technical and business communities will help the student groups draw up their business plans.
Sponsors for the event include the Catalyst Law Group, Cooley Godward Kronish and Qualcomm.
Recently the student group hosted a $1,000 business concept competition. Close to 300 UCSD students working in teams submitted more than 50 business idea summaries that included novel alternative fuels and biomarkers for cancer detection.
The winner of that competition will be announced Jan. 18.
