San Diego County public health officials confirmed three more cases of swine flu in the area April 29, bringing the total number of local people infected to eight.
Among the most recent people to have contracted swine flu are a 38-year-old father and his 3-year-old son. They are related to the 7-year-old male whose illness required the closure of Christ the Cornerstone Academy in Mira Mesa three days ago. The other newly confirmed case is a 23-year-old military man.
The county is also awaiting lab results from seven others they suspect could have the illness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said it has received reports of 109 confirmed cases of the disease in the United States.
Health officials are now calling the disease H1N1.
An information hotline set up by the county’s Office of Emergency Services during the October 2007 wildfires will serve callers seeking further information about swine flu. Call 211 for more information.
