City Secures Its Place in Defense Industry

The recession may be taking its toll in lost jobs, but the defense industry, particularly businesses engaged in deep cover activities requiring security clearances, is doing well locally and in several other cities, according to a Web site focused on this arena.

In a March 2 missive, ClearanceJobs.com says San Diego is one of the top 10 cities for security jobs in the defense, aerospace and Homeland Security sectors.

Defense is among the area’s most stable industries, contributing $25 billion to the economy, according to the Iowa-based site.

Nationally, job postings on the Web site increased 70 percent, compared with the same time last year, says Evan Lesser, the site’s founder and director.

Other cities and regions listed in the top 10 include Dallas/Fort Worth; Los Angeles; Orlando, Fla.; and Washington, D.C.
